Book A (selected deeds)

 Panola County, Mississippi

Deed Book A (Selected Deeds)

Districts 1 & 2

Note: These abstracts are based on a typed transcript of Deed Book A made ca. 1900–1950. The original volume is believed to be held at the Chancery Clerk's office at the First District Courthouse in Sardis. This typed transcript has been used because it is available online at FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org), digital film no. 008484088.

At the time when these deeds were originally made, there was only one county seat and one court district in Panola County, based in the town of Panola (now extinct). Deeds in the book pertain to land in both of the later court districts.

A high proportion of the early deeds record sales and other transactions between land speculators, most of whom never lived in the county. Because this abstracting project has the goal of facilitating the study of the settlement of the county, only deeds mentioning settlers (as grantors, grantees, or witnesses) were abstracted.

Page numbers refer to the typed transcription, which may have the same pagination as the original volume. Image numbers refer to the digitized microfilm found on FamilySearch as digital film 008484088.

Boldface type indicates a known settler of Panola County.
